Yiwu Index, short for Yiwu China Commodity Index, is China’s first index to reflect the trading condition of consumer goods in China, esp. in Yiwu – the largest wholesalemarket for small daily use articles. It includes price index, market boom index , and other up to 10 single monitoring and measuring indices. The price index is published weekly. While boom index and other single indices are published monthly. There are 100 base points for price index and 1,000 base points for boom index. How Yiwu Index Was Born?

Minister of Commerce Bo Xilai put forward this idea in Sep. 2005 year during a tour to Yiwu. The Ministry of Commerce liked this idea and entrusted China small commodity city,Zhejiang Gongshang University and another software company to jointly develop this program. Yiwu Index was officially launched in Oct. 2006, on the same day when Yiwu hosted the 12th China Yiwu International Commodity Fair.

Founded in October, 2001, the International Trade City District 1 is officially put into operation on 22 October, 2002 which occupies 420 Mu and a building area of 340,000 m2 with a total investment of 700 million. It is divided into five main business areas: subject of the market, manufacturer outlet center, shopping center, warehousing center and catering center. There are more than 9000 booths and over 10500 business entities in total.

Yiwu International Trade City – District 1

This is the big brother of all the other districts. It was built in October, 2001 and put into use on Oct.22, 2002. Now already 7 years old.

The 4-floor-building occupies a total area of 340,000 m2, and holds 10,500+ shop fronts. Over 95% of the shops can do export.

Most of them can speak some English. They definitely understand “how much?” and can show the price on their calculators with no difficulties.

Shipping agents, fast serving restaurants, resting lounge, banks, and internet are all put inside. It’s actually pretty easy for buyers sourcing here.

1st floor is filled with toys and artificial flowers. 2nd floor is for jewelry. 3rd floor is for jewelry accessories, art & crafts.

4th floor is different. It’s only for factories to set up their own outlets centers, so you will only find outlets center on this floor. They are real factories, but the variety is also limited.

This district is also the busiest one, as it’s mainly for ladies and kids.

Yiwu International Trade City – District 2

This District was put into use on Oct.22, 2004. It’s a 5-store- building and has an area of 600,000+ m2. Over 10,000 shop fronts are cubed from floor one to floor three.

Industries of bags & brief cases, umbrellas, rainwear are located on floor one.

Hardware and hardware accessories, electrical accessories, locks and auto products are on floor two.

Floor three is for home appliances, electronics & telecommunications, watches and clocks.

4th floor is also for factory outlets centers. Hong Kong Mall, South Korean Mall, Sichuan Mall are also located on this floor.

Like District one, this district also has shipping agents, banks, restaurants, telecom companies… And there is a four start hotel and two squares at both sides.

Another special thing about this district is that it’s an AAAA tourist destination with ISO9001 and ISO4001. So it’s much clean and modern-looking, with sightseeing lifts up and down.
